Amongst it's staff, the Muciara Diving Center has two highly qualified professionals dedicated to marine environmental education trainings:

Dr. Paolo Carini, Terrestrial Ecologist and FIPSAS Dive Instructor and FIPSAS Marine Biology Instructor, also conducts underwater trainings in a sport association in Bologna;

Dr. Giulia Bernardi, Marine Biologist specialized in coastal monitoring. Giulia organizes environmental education classes for divers, children and non-divers that are curious about learning more about the wonders of the underwater world.

1) FIPSAS-CMAS underwater courses in Marine Biology, 1 ° and 2 ° level
The courses, which take place between May and September,  allow people to acquire an adequate knowledge on marine habitats by addressing specific issues, such as:

Level 1:
- The ecology of aquatic habitats
- Morphology of the seabeds
- Oceanography
- Characteristics of the Mediterranean basin
- Biology of marine organisms and their distribution
- Biological sampling and monitoring techniques
The minimum duration of the course is 12 hours of theory, 3 hours of laboratory and 3 dives.

Level 2:
- The study of physiology and anatomy of animals and marine plants
- Analysis of the sandy seabed
- Sharks, Whales, Reptiles
- Adaptations of marine organisms to the environment
- Tropical corals and coral Mediterranean
The minimum duration of the course 'of 16 hours of theory, 3 hours of laboratory and 3 dives.

The participation fee is 100 euros for each student.

2) Marine Biology Courses fof Childern
Marine Biology Courses will take place from June to September at the Muciara Diving Center. This experience allows children to live in close contact with the sea, getting to know one of the most unexploited and welcoming places of Sicily. During the corse, theoretical lessons and recreational activities will be organized.

Content of courses:

This course aims to educate young people to the beauty of the sea through theoretical lessons and practical activities on the beach.
In particouar:

1) The inhabitants of the sea: the main group of marine invertebrates, marine fish, marine reptiles and marine mammals

On the beach, the children will collect and identify the most curious and beautiful artifacts found along the shore, hence becoming explorers, skilled in the search of clues and traces that detect the presence of marine living beings. Naturalist guides and picture books will be consulted to support the cognitive process.

The children will be equipped with mask and snorkel for a real exploration, in search of the sea creatures that inhabit the coast: through recognition cards, they will be encouraged to recognize the different live organisms and their coastal habitat location, visible through a dip in the blue. It will be a surprise for them to recognize and categorize them after having studied them!

The activities will take place during a period of three mornings or afternoons. At the end of the course children will receive a certificate of participation in the Course of Marine Biology.
The course fee is 100 euros per child.

Upon request, and with an additional contribution, the "Baptism of the Sea" can be organized: children will be accompanied in the use of the underwater breathing- air apparatus by a qualified diving instructor, just a few meters deep and in total safety, in order to see the underwater world with their own eyes.
